UV-curing colorant is widely adopted on wood, 3C plastic and paper because it cures in seconds, delivers high gloss and low VOC. This article presents three real application cases of DENSON UV colorant with process parameters and performance data.
Fig.1 Wood UV roll coating machine
A UV-curing colorant is a pigment dispersion in acrylate oligomer/monomer with a photoinitiator. It cures under LED-UVA to a cross-linked film within seconds, providing high gloss, scratch and chemical resistance.
DENSON UV colorant was roll-coated on oak flooring, LED-UVA 395 nm, line speed 20 m/min. Pencil hardness H, adhesion 0 grade (GB/T 9286), abrasion 12000 cycles (GB/T 1768).
Fig.2 UV coating line workshop
For ABS phone housings, the colorant was spray-applied after corona treatment. Adhesion 0 grade, no orange peel, cure ≤2 s. ACM 2026 references polymeric dispersants improving dispersion in UV inks.
Fig.3 UV clean spray line
Fast-running paperboard varnish: cure ≤1 s, gloss ≥85 GU (60), rub resistance passed. The colorant is low-viscosity and stable on roll coaters.
| Parameter | Wood | 3C plastic | Paper | Standard |

More in Literature and DENSON.
DENSON UV colorant delivers fast cure and reliable performance on wood, 3C plastic and paper; surface preparation initiator selection are the two key controls.
Q1: How to improve plastic adhesion?
A: Corona treat the substrate and add adhesion promoter.
Q2: What line speed for wood?
A: About 20 m/min at 395 nm LED.
Q3: Is paper varnish scratch resistant?
A: Yes, gloss ≥85 GU and rub-resistant after cure.
Q4: Does it contain VOC?
A: Near-zero VOC, compliant with GB 38508.
Q5: Fineness requirement?
A: ≤15 μm (GB/T 1724) for high gloss.
